MPC 3 Community EditionMPC 3 CE v0.2.6

Your MPC, extended.

Free community firmware for the MPC Live II. Two-way X-Touch control with motor faders, mouse note editing and Shift+wheel note stepping, built in your browser from Akai's own 3.9.1 update.

MPC Live II in the Mixer
Behringer X-Touch, MC mode over USB

Move a fader on either one, tap the pads, press Play.

Two-way X-Touch.

Set a full-size X-Touch to MC mode, plug it into the MPC and load a project. Names, colors, meters and fader positions come from the MPC, and whatever you move on either side moves on the other.

Mixer
Volume on motor faders, pan on encoders, plus mute, solo, select and record arm.
Sends and Drum Mix
The selected track's four sends on faders, or every pad of a Drum track, bank by bank.
Plug-ins
Open an insert, page through its parameters, and bypass it with Shift.
Q-Links
All sixteen, on the encoders or flipped onto the faders.
Transport
Play, stop, record, loop, click, undo and automation modes. Footswitches do Play and Record.
Jog wheel
Scrub by beats, or press Scrub and it becomes the MPC's data wheel.

Mouse editing.

Plug a USB mouse into the MPC. Click a note or drag a box around several, then roll the wheel: it's the MPC's data wheel.

Right-click and long-press gestures aren't supported yet.

Drag across a few notes to select them.

Shift + wheel.

In the Grid, hold Shift and turn the data wheel to select the next or previous note in time order, like Maschine's event select. Let go of Shift and the wheel works as usual.

No controller needed. On the X-Touch, Shift and the jog wheel do the same.

Hold Shift and turn the wheel. Here a tap keeps Shift on, and your keyboard's Shift key works too.

Coming soon

Global MIDI Learn.

Pick an MPC function, move a knob on your MIDI controller, and it's mapped. In every project, set up on the MPC itself.

A preview of the idea. The finished screen may look different.

Choose a row, then turn any knob.

Get it.

  1. Build it in your browser

Open the image builder and choose Akai's official MPC-3.9.1-Gen1-update.img. The image is made on your computer. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. Copy it to a USB drive

Put the saved image at the top of the drive, on its own, with its filename unchanged.

  3. Update the MPC

Back up your projects, connect the power adapter and run USB Drive Update from Preferences > Info > Update. Your settings and projects are kept.

Build your image

The builder has the full install steps and an optional SSH key for copying files over Wi-Fi.

MPC Live II on firmware 3.9.1
Other Gen1 MPCs are untested. Gen2 and Force are not supported.
Full-size X-Touch for controller features
In MC mode over USB, plugged straight into the MPC. In Preferences > MIDI/Sync, turn off Track, Global and Control for X-TOUCH_INT.
No controller? Still useful
The USB mouse and Shift+wheel note selection work on their own.
